Future Cricket Stars make Cup Final
Fawley Cricket Academy are celebrating a fantastic season that was capped by the under 16s team staring in the New Forest Cup final. The team, which was mainly made up of players younger than the under 16 age limit, were beaten by Sway but still put on a good show. Their route to the final saw them knock out clubs such as Totton and Eling, Bashley (Rydal) and Hyde. This summer Fawley Cricket Academy offered the opportunity to play cricket to boys and girls ages anywhere between 4 and 19. The youngest were involved in the All Star Cricket, an ECB national programme, which gave youngsters aged 4-8 the chance to train to become future super stars. These players led into the under 9s team, the youngest competitive team in the academy, which this year finished a respectable 6th in a ten team league and reaching a cup quarter final. The under 11s team, which mainly consisted of players who had moved up from under 9s the year before hand, finished in a very good 3rd place. Moving onto the under 13s where consistency was the biggest issue they had a strong league season finishing in 4th, in a league that was beset by withdrawals. Both the under 11s and 13s have a mix of players who have been with the academy for a number of years and new players, so the results in the leagues is a testament to the hard work they have put in during training. Finally the under 16s finished second from bottom in the league, this mainly being down to players being unavailable due to laying representative cricket on the same day. It has been great to see so many on the under 13s step up and play for the under 16s this season. The final team, who at the time of writing still have games to play, is the under 19s team. They too have been beset by sides unable to raise teams and weather. Fawley Cricket Academy will continue to offer cricket to youngsters of all ages and abilities going into the autumn, which training sessions right through the autumn at Noadswood School. Anyone interested in joining can either contact Academy director John Church on 07717 773741, email [email protected] or Head Coach Andrew Woods on 07572 097208, email [email protected] for mor information.

Final U 13 league game finished with an 81 run victory at Bransgore. Batting first we scored 152/5 from 18 overs. Connor 31 retired, Josh 30 retired, Sam 22, Harvey 12 and Reggie 13. In reply Bransgore were all out for 71. Connor 3/3 and Josh 3/4 the pick of the 8 bowlers used. Couple of excellent run outs by Jake. Well done one and all.
We will continue to train on Mondays until the schools break up. Next Thursday we will have an inter club game with any willing parents invited to join in. Meet 6pm. Final date for diary is the club's summer party and Junior presentation evening. There will be a live band. Venue Exbury club on the 22nd July from 7-30pm. Thanks to all the parents for the support with drinks, biscuits, scoring etc. The team has been an absolute pleasure to coach. The U 13s lost to top of the table Lymington last night by 2 runs. All 9 boys that bowled did well as we restricted Lymington to 87. Harry's brilliant caught and bowled the highlight. We then sporting provided Lymington with an additional fielder as they only had 10 players. That in the end probably cost us the game with the runs the extra fielder saved! When did I become such a good sport!
At 21/5 it all looked over but a great partnership between James (30) and Josh(22) got us back into the game. Lymington whose top 4 bats also bowled all the overs did bowl well as we fell just 2 runs short. A great team effort again. Totton at home in the cup on Wednesday and training as normal on Monday. The U13 team beat Lymington 2 this evening by 25 runs. Batting first they scored 107/1. Connor 32 retired and James 29 not out. Lymington finished on 82/3. Young u 11 players Reg and Jake both got a wicket each. Well done team.
Pylewell Park at home next Thursday meet 6pm. No training on the Bank Holiday Monday. What a really great effort from all the U13 team this evening losing a close game against a good New Milton side. Having lost Max to illness just before the start the team took to the field with only 10. New Milton very supportingly lent as a fielder throughout. New Milton ended up 114/6 after 18 overs. All the boys bowler really well. Tom F with 2 wickets. Tom C , James, Sam and Josh all with one each. Connor with 2 good catches.
In reply Connor and Jack N put on 40 before Jack was out to a very good catch for 11. Connor ended up being retired for an excellent 30. With it almost pitch black all the boys had a really good go. We ended up on I think 98/9 so lost by 16 but a very proud coach of the effort put in. We are at home next Thursday against Lymington so it's meet at the club at 5-50. Training as normal on Monday. Just need a sponsor now for coloured kit like New Milton! |
