Future Cricket Stars make Cup Final
Fawley Cricket Academy are celebrating a fantastic season that was capped by the under 16s team staring in the New Forest Cup final. The team, which was mainly made up of players younger than the under 16 age limit, were beaten by Sway but still put on a good show. Their route to the final saw them knock out clubs such as Totton and Eling, Bashley (Rydal) and Hyde. This summer Fawley Cricket Academy offered the opportunity to play cricket to boys and girls ages anywhere between 4 and 19. The youngest were involved in the All Star Cricket, an ECB national programme, which gave youngsters aged 4-8 the chance to train to become future super stars. These players led into the under 9s team, the youngest competitive team in the academy, which this year finished a respectable 6th in a ten team league and reaching a cup quarter final. The under 11s team, which mainly consisted of players who had moved up from under 9s the year before hand, finished in a very good 3rd place. Moving onto the under 13s where consistency was the biggest issue they had a strong league season finishing in 4th, in a league that was beset by withdrawals. Both the under 11s and 13s have a mix of players who have been with the academy for a number of years and new players, so the results in the leagues is a testament to the hard work they have put in during training. Finally the under 16s finished second from bottom in the league, this mainly being down to players being unavailable due to laying representative cricket on the same day. It has been great to see so many on the under 13s step up and play for the under 16s this season. The final team, who at the time of writing still have games to play, is the under 19s team. They too have been beset by sides unable to raise teams and weather. Fawley Cricket Academy will continue to offer cricket to youngsters of all ages and abilities going into the autumn, which training sessions right through the autumn at Noadswood School. Anyone interested in joining can either contact Academy director John Church on 07717 773741, email [email protected] or Head Coach Andrew Woods on 07572 097208, email [email protected] for mor information.

An excellent game of cricket this evening saw our U16 team beat Bashley by 1 run to reach the cup final. Batting first we scored 126/6. Both Max and Bailey retired out for 40 each. The Bashley openers then got them off to a good start but a great catch by Dan and the retirement of the other opener slowed them down. All the lads stuck at it really well and an excellent run out by Matt was vital. With 6 needed to win up stepped Bailey and he restricted them to just 4 and the boys won by 1 run! Well done to Manager Jo and the team.
The final is at Langley Manor on the 30th July with a 5-30pm start. Excellent all round team display by the U 16 s this evening in the cup. They beat Langley Manor by 30 odd runs. Well done to Jo and all the team on reaching the semi-final where they will face Bashley at home.
